6. What is an Income Tested Fee?
This is a government assessed “co-payment” levied as part of the resident’s contribution to care. The payment is levied on deemed income and deemed assets and is calculated by the Centrelink on behalf of the government. Casey takes no part in the assessment of the Income Tested Fee. Accommodation bonds are not taken into account when assessing deemed income. As a result paying an accommodation bond may reduce the level of income tested fee levied. Residents should seek advice from their financial adviser on this matter.
7. How will I find out my Income Tested Fee?
If you are a part pensioner or a non-pensioner, Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) will advise you about your income assessment.
If you prefer, you can nominate someone to deal with the DHA on your behalf. The Appointment of a Nominee form is available from the management staff at Casey, or you can ring the Aged Care Information Line and ask for one to be sent to you. Nominee information that you may have provided to Centrelink or DVA cannot be transferred to the DHA.
DHA will also advise your maximum fee to Casey but will not provide it with information about your income or other financial information.
8. What is a periodic payment?
You may elect to pay an increased daily fee which is known as a periodic payment instead of paying all or part of your Bond as a lump sum. The periodic payment will include interest on the balance of any unpaid Bond amount and the monthly retention, if applicable. You may choose to subsequently pay the balance of your Bond as a lump sum at any future time. (The periodic payments would then cease).
We recommend you speak with your financial advisers as to whether it is best to pay your Bond by lump sum, periodic payment or a combination of the two.
9. What happens if I choose not to provide information about my income?
Residents may choose not to provide information about their income. If they choose not to do so, they may be required to pay maximum fees. Residents should seek financial advice before choosing this option.
